Wormy maple, turned green, bent, burned, colored and finished.
In 2007 I demonstrated for the Indianapolis Woodturners. I brought my Oneway 2436 lathe for the demo. I was told that they had been collecting funds for quite some time so they could purchase a new and bigger lathe. I wanted to help them in their efforts and, since the Indianapolis Colts had just won Super Bowl 41, I thought it would be a nice gesture to donate a cowboy hat with the Colts logo in hopes that a fan would purchase the donated hat.
A few weeks later I received a call from Jim in Indiana who was interested in the hat and wanted to buy it as a gift for a friend of his. Jim turned out to be Jim Ersey, the owner of the Colts.
My apologies for the ugly mug—this is the only picture I have of this hat and was taken shortly after my demonstration by someone in the group. The hat will be displayed in the George W. Bush Presidential Library. To see another picture of the hat and to read the rest of the story, go to: http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/releases/2007/04/20070423-6.html
