LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)---The Kentucky Derby is not only about the horses. There's also the fashion and the hats!
Wormy maple, turned green, bent, burned, colored and finished.
In 2007 I demonstrated for the Indianapolis Woodturners. I brought my Oneway 2436 lathe for the demo. I was told that they had been collecting funds for quite some time so they could purchase a new and bigger lathe. I wanted to help them in their efforts and, since the Indianapolis Colts had just won Super Bowl 41, I thought it would be a nice gesture to donate a cowboy hat with the Colts logo in hopes that a fan would purchase the donated hat.
In 2003 I was invited to the White House by President George W. Bush for a ceremony to present him with some of my artwork. Pictured are President Bush, Kentucky Congressman Harold "Hal" Rogers and yours truly.
This horse head was carved from Sapodilla burl. The base is black granite that was carved. This was a collaborative effort by my brother, David and I. To see more of David's work, please visit his website at www.burlhorse.com
